Competitive set configurations allow you to include those hotels considered competitors, so you can study and compare the price in the market. Go to Configuration>General>Competitive set
To include a new competitor:
The BEONx Customer Care team will work to include the hotel within the next hours.
Competitor Configuration & SmartRange Behavior
To maximize the effectiveness of SmartRange, it is recommended to define a stable compset with sufficient historical data. The algorithm automatically analyzes the configured competitors’ pricing behavior and applies it intelligently to its recommendations. Therefore, manual exclusion of competitors by season is no longer necessary or recommended. Frequent activation/deactivation of competitors negatively affects the model’s learning process.
SmartRange is designed to detect patterns even in more complex scenarios, such as:
Market-leading hotels with a cheaper compset.
Aspirational compsets where the hotel is the most affordable within their compset.
Compsets with limited availability or many dates without a CUR price.
Hotels with no direct competitors nearby, relying on geographically distant compsets.
When should you manually adjust the compset?
Manual adjustments in the Competitor Configuration module are only needed in specific situations involving a structural shift in a competitor’s pricing strategy, such as:
Temporary hotel closures due to renovations.
Stock reductions caused by refurbishment.
In these cases, it may be appropriate to temporarily exclude the competitor from the model. To do so:
Click the edit button of the competitor.
Select the period during which the hotel should be excluded.
Click Save.
How to monitor a competitor without affecting the algorithm (only hotels without Lighthouse)
If you want to track a competitor’s prices without influencing the model’s recommendations, you can keep the hotel only within the Rate Shopper module, under the Competitors tab (only hotels without Lighthouse). To do this:
Click the edit button of the competitor.
Deselect the option “Enable this hotel in this service.”
Click Save.
How to monitor a competitor without affecting the algorithm (only hotels with Lighthouse)
If a hotel using LH wants to monitor or view a competitor’s prices without them impacting the algorithm and, therefore, the recommendation model, the competitor can also be disabled from this screen. This way, the competitor’s prices will remain visible in the tool but will not be taken into account for generating recommendations.
Additional Considerations for Hotels with Lighthouse
For hotels connected to Lighthouse, ensure that the mapping is correct and that no historical data has been lost during the integration. This is essential to maintain the quality and consistency of SmartRange pricing recommendations.
