Guide of good practices to configure your market and channel segmentation
Hotels work with a wide variety of products in different channels and markets.
Segmentation is the process to divide those target markets into clearly identifiable groups of customers based on common interests and reactions to market actions that will allow you to apply different strategies to both create value and maximize revenue and profitability.
Before configuring your segmentation you need to check:
- Do you have the inventory and rate structure already configured in Beonprice? If not, you can find the steps to configure here
- What type of segmentation do you have in the hotel?
-
Market segmentation will enable you to divide the market into distinct groups of buyers who might require separate products. It’s customizable by hotel. You will have the chance to create:
- Macro segments: to classify the market based on variables with a broader scope. It will allow you to group different market segments in one entity, this will help you to visualize and extract aggregated data.
- Market segments: to group bookings who share one or more common characteristics. You will be able to map your PMS Segment Codes with the segmentation configured in Beonprice.
-
Channel segmentation: will enable you to analyze how the demand is distributed by channels. You will have the chance to create:
- Channels: Could be online or offline
- Agencies: To group bookings which share the same origin. (eg. Booking .com, web, …)
To bear in mind:
- It is necessary to group all codes that Beonprice receives from your PMS.
- In case you have old codes (you haven’t used it for more than two years), it is convenient to delete them from the PMS. A clear and tidy structure will help you in your daily routine.
- If, in the future, you create new segmentation codes, take time to configure it also in Beonprice.
- If you have some rate plans unavailable to configure in Beonprice, configure it with a similar one.
